Desert Center | Los Angeles (@desertcenterlosangeles) is a project space from Phoenix-born, Los Angeles-based writer and editor Michael Slenske. Since its June 2018 debut, Desert Center has organized the exhibition Greater Than L.A.—a group show examining the psycho- geography of Los Angeles with work spanning the last half-century from 20 artists including Larry Bell, Genevieve Gaignard, Lauren Halsey, Rachel Mason, Jennifer Rochlin, Ry Rocklen, Alex Becerra, Eve Fowler and Robert Yarber; the solo show Jeremy Shockley | Homeward Bound featuring a working painting studio built by the South Carolina-born artist; #followme, a multimedia survey examining the historical and contemporary effects of guru culture, which featured the works of 15 international artists including Scott Benzel, Zoe Hawk, Nir Hod, Salomón Huerta, Anthony James, Kelly Lamb, Robert Lazzarini and Una Szeemann; and Chuck Arnoldi — Rough Cuts that included the Venice-based artist’s most recent suite of “Chainsaw Paintings” made in the Yukon Territory in the summer of 2018.
In December 2018 Slenske launched the The Street & The Shop at Tin Flats with Stephen Neidich.
